Suspect in Jail on Drug Charges Now Charged with Homicide
An Erie man already in jail on drug charges is now charged with the shooting death of a former Cathedral Prep football player.
The suspect is identified as Dawaun Carson, 29, also known as “Hoodbuck.”
Carson is facing a number of charges, including criminal homicide in connection to the shooting death of 22-year-old Justin Wiley.
The incident happened around midnight on July 2, near the intersection of West 19th and Chestnut Streets.
Police arrived to find Wiley gunned down inside of his car. Wiley died of a gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators say Carson and Wiley had a "contemptuous and violent history." In a separate case of shots fired on May 31, police say Wiley told investigators that Carson was the shooter.
After speaking with witnesses, police say Carson was identified as being at the scene of the crime with a gun on the night of the shooting. Police also towed a car from the scene, they say Carson was driving.
Carson is being held in the Erie County Prison.
