Sandbar Re-Opens After Tragic Loss of Beloved Owner
A popular bar is back up and running for the weekend, after the devastating loss of it's beloved owner.
The tragic loss of Kum Miller is still affecting members of the community who knew and loved her. Outside of the sandbar on the corner of West 8th Street and Peninsula Drive, you can see the marquee message, honoring and remembering Kum as a loving, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
According to a Facebook post from one of Kum's family members, the Sandbar will be open Friday 4/29 and Saturday 4/30 during regular business hours.
Those close to Kum say it wouldn't be a proper weekend at the Sandbar without live music, which she loved. So if you're planning on coming out this weekend, expect to hear music from Breeze Band on Friday night and Money Shot on Saturday night.
Although family and friends are still mourning the loss of Kum Miller, they say her memory will live on through the music.
"I think we're going to feel her spirit on the dance floor, because that's where she always came out and even if she didn't know you she was out there coming up and dancing with you, she was an unadulterated joy and she would love that this is happening. She wouldn't want us to be sad, well we're going to be sad, but she wouldn't want us to not do this, and she wouldn't want the music to stop," said Monica Lewis, founder of the band Stiletto, which frequently plays at Sandbar. Monica is also a long time friend of Kum and the Miller family.
After hearing stories from close friends of Kum's, it's clear that she made a positive impact on the Erie community.
A terrible loss, but the community is moving forward and celebrating Kum, while being as positive as possible.
