Man Charged in Shooting
Erie police have charged a suspect in a shooting early Saturday morning that left a 26-year-old woman in critical condition. At about 4:30 a.m., rescuers and police found the woman near East 22nd and Wallace Street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was in critical condition when she was taken to UPMC Hamot for treatment.
Sources say officers followed a blood trail to a vehicle parked outside 516 East 21st Street. They found shell casings inside that vehicle. Police took 23-year-old Izaha Burns into custody from that residence. He's facing a long list of criminal charges including two counts of attempted homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, and theft. He is in the Erie County prison with bond set at 250-thousand-dollars cash.
Police believe it began with a dispute over the suspect taking the woman's cellphone at the 12th and Sassafras Street McDonald's restaurant. They say when she followed him to East 21st, that's when the shooting began.
