Residents Observe Move-out Deadline in Condemned Grenada Apartment Building
Time is up for the residents of the Grenada Apartments who were asked to vacate a building condemned on Wednesday. Late this afternoon, Matthew Exley, Millcreek Township Emergency Management Coordinator took a final walk-through of the building at 1690 Treetop Drive, to make sure all residents are out.
This building is considered the worst of five condemned structures in the complex. Inspectors found structural issues in the foundation and in a rear load-bearing wall.
Twenty units were vacated with only one family asking for red cross assistance. "When we condemn a building a building its a very hard decision and we put a lot of thought into it. But we know that we're changing peoples lives and that they have to figure out new things to do. Taking care of the people is our priority here and making sure they're safe," Exley said.
Millcreek has inspected 34 of 35 buildings in the Granda complex. The final building will be inspected next week.
