Posted: Updated:

The 18 year old accused of accidentally shooting himself waived his preliminary hearing Monday morning.

Donte Russell, of Erie, faces a felony firearms charge, as well as misdemeanor charges for false reports and tampering with evidence.

Russell showed up at UPMC Hamot with a gunshot wound December 27th

Investigators say he falsely told them he was shot during an assault and robbery near East 7th and Gilson Avenue.

Police say Russell admitted to shooting himself and ditching the gun.

Russell is free after posting $5,000 bond in early January.
