Oaxaca FilmFest Works Around Three Major Earthquakes

Posted: Updated:
Oaxaca FilmFest originally scheduled for early October restructures its event to bring awareness to the region's crisis.

OAXACA, MEXICO, October 04, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The eight edition of the International Film festival Oaxaca FilmFest has been restructured due to the recent earthquakes throughout Mexico.

The festival originally scheduled for just 8 days in Oaxaca, Mexico, will now transform into a road show that will tour the world well into 2018. The objective is to not only raise money for the those displaced so they can rebuild their lives but awareness as well to the social crisis created by the 3 quakes over the course of 16 days.

This now extended season has been rebranded as Oaxaca FilmFest Sin Fronteras Edition.

In a statement released via social media yesterday Oaxaca FilmFest stated:

"As we began to redesign this edition of the festival it became apparent very quickly that:

1. There was absolutely no way we were going to be able to recreate the Oaxaca FilmFest experience under the current circumstances. After listening to the artist-panelist-speakers-sponsors-vendors-and venues there was just to many scheduling conflicts to overcome.

2. That we needed to create something completely different. The events of the last weeks demanded not only dignity and respect but a platform to bring the current social crisis to a global stage."

The reshaped edition will focus on three areas:

THE COMMUNITY

All Community Outreach programs will be held as originally scheduled. Allowing the children, the university students, and the foundations to continue to build on the success they have worked so hard for over the previous seven years.

THE FILMMAKERS

Selected films will participate in a world tour starting this week from the epicenter of the first quake-Juchitan. This tour will continue into 2018. The tour is designed to exhibit and showcase the talent of the filmmakers. However, these screenings will have no presentation and no artist Q/A- ensuring the focus is on the affected regions and carried out in a dignified and respectful manner.

THE SCREENWRITERS

Remote PitchFest will be launched giving artist the platform to pitch their next great idea. PitchFest will be providing screenwriters from around the globe access to industry leaders and opportunities for networking, mentorship, or even selling their projects for future development deals.

The Official Selection and Awards will be honored exclusively on line via social media Wednesday October 11th from 8pm -10pm.
