MOUNTLAKE TERRACE, Wash. - October 4, 2017 - (Newswire.com)

1st Security Bank of Washington was nationally recognized by the American Bankers Association Foundation for its work with the IF Project and received the 2017 Community Commitment Award. The award was given to 1st Security for its efforts in the Financial Education category and will be presented during the ABA's Annual Convention in Chicago on Oct. 17.

The program is part of a comprehensive mentoring initiative that helps female inmates incarcerated at the Washington Corrections Center for Women prepare for reentry into a successful life outside of prison. Bank employees, including leadership, facilitate financial literacy sessions with the goal of providing practical knowledge regarding the management of money.

The selection committee chose six banks based on the creativity, innovation, and thoughtfulness of programs that embody the ideals of corporate social responsibility and demonstrate success in measurable terms.

"Their work with the IF Project demonstrates 1st Security's strong and passionate commitment to bettering the lives of its customers and local community," said Rob Nichols, ABA president and CEO. "Their work embodies the mission of the Community Commitment Awards and they are a truly well-deserved recipient."

"1st Security Bank and our employees are always working to find new and meaningful ways to positively impact our community," said Joe Adams, CEO. "We want to thank Seattle Police Detective Kim Bogucki, the visionary behind the IF Project. Kim's passion inspired us to get involved and we are truly humbled and honored to accept this award."

1st Security Bank of Washington, member FDIC and Equal Housing Lender, provides loan and deposit services to customers at its eleven branches, and mortgage services at each branch as well as lending offices in the greater Puget Sound area and the Tri-Cities. FS Bancorp, Inc., a Washington corporation, is the holding company for the bank.
