A possible suspect has been identified as police search for the man who led officers on a chase before crashing into a business and later abandoning his vehicle late Monday night, Vernon Township Police said Tuesday.

It started when police found a suspicious vehicle parked behind Aspen Dental on Route 322 around 11:30 p.m. Monday.

As the officer approached the vehicle, the male driver sped off and led police on a pursuit over the Smock Bridge and into the City of Meadville, police said.

The vehicle later hit a building that used to house Miller Insurance as it approached Linden and South Cottage Streets, according to Vernon Township Police. The building suffered both exterior and interior damage.

The vehicle then took off and was found at Forest Green Apartments, where the driver got out of the car and fled into the woods, police said.

The Meadville Police K9 unit completed a detailed search of the area. Meadville City Police, Pennsylvania State Police and the Cochranton Police Department assisted in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Vernon Township Police at 814-333-6309.
