Students Studying Bears Get Up Close & Personal Look at Animal
Students in one area third-grade class may be talking about about their Friday field trip for some time. It took an unexpected, yet welcomed turn. They were able to take their work on studying a bear's habitat, into an up close and personal event.
The Edinboro Elementary students were visiting Presque Isle. They saw first hand, a tranquilized bear. The students have been studying how to care for bears, in class. A dad of one of the students is a warden with the game commission. He had plans, approved by the school, to bring a bear to the class. But things changed on Friday when a bear needed tranquilized.
The students were planning a trip to check out the ponds at the park and what animals live there when instead, they got to see the 320 pound bear, hold one of its teeth, and even pet the animal, as it remained tranquilized.
