We often hear from politicians running for office on why they think they have what it takes to be elected, but what about the people that volunteer their time on behalf of each candidate and why they choose to give up their time?

Erie News Now Sunday caught up with volunteers from each of the three candidates hoping to secure their name on the Democratic ballot for Second District State Representative.

Erie City Councilman Bob Merski, former Erie County Councilman Jay Breneman and former Erie Mayor Rick Filippi are each vying for the seat.

Volunteers were going door-to-door, handing out carnations to people heading to the Breakfast Place on Peach Street and making calls. They all hope to make a difference.

Because of health issues, Second District State Representative Flo Fabrizio decided not to seek re-election.
