Harris Family Daycare has been serving local families for the past 18 years, taking care of children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in a large home on Erie's west side.

Owner Elaine Harris says taking care of kids is not just her job, it is her life.

She said, "This is what I was meant to do. This is why I am here. I like to get them in early, teach them, instill in them their values before they get out there in the world. This just just what I do."

Elaine takes care of children from birth to age 13. And in the 18 years she has been running her business, she has taken care of a lot of children, a least 120 over the years.

She handles much of the care herself. But her family helps out a lot.

The business is licensed to care for 6 kids at a time.

Babies, toddlers and children up to the age of 13.

And it is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The house is a busy place.

Elaine works hard to be sure the kids have plenty of things to do, both fun and educational activities.

She said, "They do their coloring. We do their education. We write letters. We do numbers. We play cards. We do all kinds of activities."

Elaine says she is planning to grow the business in the near future. Her plan is to open a center with the capacity to take care of more children."
