Sunday kicked off a week-long celebration for the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania.

The organization is holding its first-ever spirit week.

Girl Scout troops are celebrating their accomplishments in the past year, including all the badges they have received and the new friendships they have made.

They are also looking forward to the future and all the new troops and volunteers that will be part of the organization.

Organizers said each troop in the area will host its own events to celebrate the girls' hard work in the community.

"Girl Scouts help their communities, and that's kind of the point we're celebrating," said Stefanie Marshall, public relations associate for the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania. "It's not just with the community service projects. What we're doing is we're helping girls become stronger leaders, which is something that's going to help carry them through their lives, and in the long run, make us one big stronger community."

Spirit week runs until Saturday, Sept. 29.
