Plans are moving ahead for a couple of new restaurants to open in Millcreek Township this year.

Demolition is wrapping up on the former Sears Tire and Battery Center at the Millcreek Mall complex off Peach St.

A new Sonic restaurant will be built at that site.

The only thing preventing construction from starting is the submission of a stormwater management plan, according to Matt Waldinger, Millcreek Township's director of planning and development.

Meanwhile, plans to build a Chick-fil-A restaurant are proceeding on W. 12 St. at the Yorktown Shopping Center.

An Eat'n Park restaurant would be demolished to make way for the Chick-fil-A.

"We are waiting on them now to submit a formal land development plan, so they can go ahead and get their approvals and then start building," said Waldinger.

Millcreek Township and Chick-fil-A disagreed on where the restaurant's drive-thru windows should be located. That hurdle has since been cleared.
