Erie Airport Director, Pilots Meet to Discuss Maintenance Mechanics
We are following the latest on a conflict over whether small aircraft owners who lease hanger space at Erie International Airport can keep bring in their own maintenance mechanics.
Airport director Derek Martin said the long standing practice is in violation of FAA rules, and he is concerned about liability.
Pilots in Hanger 20 and the AV Flyer Group do not see it that way. They believe it is allowed in their lease.
The two sides met Tuesday to talk about options going forward.
Martin proposes mechanics coming on airport property add a new $2,000 per year permit and liability insurance above what the aircraft owners already have.
Pilots said the change will force them to leave the airport for maintenance.
The Airport Authority is expected to vote when it meets Jan. 23.
