Coroner Identifies City of Erie's First Homicide Victim of 2019
The coroner has released the name of the City of Erie's first homicide victim of the year.
Jeffrey Miller, 51, died from a single gunshot wound to the chest, Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook said after Tuesday's autopsy. Miller's name was released Wednesday after the coroner's office was unable to reach family.
Police were called for reports of a shooting victim in the 400 block of Chestnut St. just before 10:30 p.m. Monday.
Miller was found in an upstairs apartment. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police said the suspect came to the apartment and shot Miller.
Investigators questioned several people who were inside the home at the time, but no one was taken into custody.
Several neighbors tell Erie News Now there was suspected drug activity at the home for some time. The possibility of a drug connection is part of the police department's ongoing investigation.
