There was lots of clapping and smiles Sunday as Asbury Woods recognized its outstanding volunteers.

The distinguished recipients were honored at the annual volunteer luncheon at the Andrew J. Conner Nature Center at Asbury Woods.

The facility had 542 volunteers who spent over 12,000 hours of their time caring for the woods and sustaining the center's educational programs.

Phil "Bubba" Lohr was named volunteer of the year.  He alone put in over 700 hours.  Lohr told us he grew up near Asbury Woods and cut through the property as a child when he missed the bus.  He's pleased with the direction of the facility and happy to help with maintaining the trails.

Bella and Genny Hauber were honored as youth volunteers of the year.  They help to care for the animals at the center, with the scouts explorer program and summer camps.
