USBC Open Championships Stops in Erie
Sunday was a big bowling day for the USBC Open Championships.
It has been going on every weekend since April and will continue through mid-June.
When the tournament wraps up, about 5,000 bowlers will have participated in the competition across the state.
It's being hosted at Eastway Lanes this weekend, supporting Erie veterans with funds for equipment and special needs.
"We're doing the bowlers to veterans link for Memorial [Day] weekend," said Brett Rearick, host tournament director. "It's an organization that's sponsored by USBC, which is the national governing body, to provide equipment, recreational equipment, [and[ therapy for veterans who have served the country and have been injured. They've been doing that for many, many years."
One Erie-area team and a few individual bowlers are doing very well.
In June, they will track the cumulative scores to see who wins.
