World War II fleet submarine USS COD SS-224 will be coming to Erie for a drydock maintenance, according to a social media post.
It will be arriving at Donjon Shipbuilding and Repair in a few weeks.
The goal of the project is to conserve and restore the underwater hull of the 78-year-old submarine, which is a national historic landmark.
The work is expected to take about 60 days.
Partial funding from the Save America's Treasures grant program from the National Park Service plus individual donors, corporations and veterans groups are funding the work.
Once the project is completed, the USS COD will return to the berth she has occupied since her arrival in Cleveland in 1959.
