Sara Tonks joined the Erie News Now team as a weekend meteorologist and multimedia journalist in December 2020.

Sara grew up in Athens, Georgia (Go Dawgs!) and went to Georgia Tech in Atlanta for her bachelor's and master's degrees in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (Go Jackets!). As an undergrad at Georgia Tech, Sara was a member of the marching band and president of the student chapter of the American Meteorological Society. She is also currently working on a second master's degree in Marine Science through Unity College.

While working on her first master's degree, Sara was a freelance producer for the Weather and Climate department at CNN in Atlanta following an internship in the fall of 2019. This job is what ultimately led to her falling in love with broadcast meteorology.

Sara grew up hearing about Erie from her grandparents who met while in college at Gannon and Mercyhurst, and she is incredibly excited to live in a city so important to her family's history.

During her free time, Sara enjoys reading, playing music, sailing, and spending time with her dog Brody.
