Home Run Becomes Out as Pirates' Third Baseman Skips First Base
From the category of "I can't recall ever seeing that before," a massive baseball blunder happened Wednesday night in a game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Pittsburgh Pirates game.
In the bottom of the first inning, Pirates' third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes hit a line drive to right field down the line and out of the park for what looked like a home run, just inside of what's known as the foul pole.
But upon further review, it wasn't a question of fair or foul as to whether or not Hayes had in fact hit a home run. It was a simple matter of not touching first base when he did.
Hayes was caught up watching the flight of the ball and never touched first base.
Major League Baseball rules state you must touch all of the bases for it to be a home run.
