An ultra-low cost airline is considering Erie as a potential market for service, according to the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership.

The airline, which has not been named, is looking at providing twice weekly, 180-seat flights to Florida, which would target leisure travelers, the chamber said.

If the plans proceed, the new airline would help increase the number of travelers using the airport and revenue generated, according to chamber officials.

Erie International Airport executive director Derek Martin said the airport has been in talks with ultra-low cost airlines, but discussions have not progressed to include destinations and flights.

Since April 2020, 71 non-hub airports in the U.S. have seen legacy airlines cancel airlines routes. Airports in Kalamazoo, Akron/Canton, Toledo, Destin, Fla., and Tallahassee are among those who have lost service, according to data shared by the chamber.
