If you're in need of a paving job, don't be so quick to accept the first offer. A paving scam has hit Erie county and already claimed several victims. The Erie Police Detective Unit tells us the scam artists will often show up at your door and say they have left over material and will do the job for cheap. The scammers then do sub-standard work that doesn't last, or they'll do more than you ask for, and force the victim into paying.
EPD Detective, Lt. Ken Merchant, "I would suggest that if anybody needs pavement work done on their driveway or parking lot, that they contact a legitimate business, a business that for instance is in the phone book, that we know is a local business."
We did a Google search and found that "Stanley Paving" has a scam record across many other states.
If you think you've fallen victim to this scam, call the local Attorney General's office at 871-4371 or file a complaint through the PA Attorney General's website linked in this article.
