A big honor for the Erie county coroner.
Governor Tom Corbett honors Coroner Lyell Cook, by appointing him to the Coroners' Education Board.

Governor Tom Corbett recently announced several confirmations, Lyell Cook was appointed to the Coroners' Education Board just last week.
The confirmation means Cook will be tasked with helping to ensure Pennsylvania has some of the most-qualified coroners in the entire country.

"It's a great honor, I  was a bit surprised when I got the paperwork, more especially to have the Senate confirm me, which is what was required," said Cook. "So, I'm very proud, not only for the Coroner's Association but for Erie county too," Cook added.

Pennsylvania is the only state in the nation, where elected coroners and full-time deputies are required to pass a challenging week-long coroners' education course.
As a member of the board, Cook will be charged with making sure the coroner's testing has the most up-to-date, pertinent information that coroners need to know.
While Governor Corbett appointed Cook, as a member of the Senate, State Senator Sean Wiley approved the appointment.

"There are very few people across the Commonwealth that have the opportunity to serve on these boards, specifically the board that Lyell serves on," said Senator Wiley. "It shows that he is an expert in what he does, he is extremely good at what he does, it has been recognized across the state of his talent, and we have to continue to celebrate that," Wiley added.

Cook's term on the board will be 4 years.
