Two people are dead after a tragic 10pm Saturday night shooting at 1713 Plum Street in west Erie.

Police believe it's a murder-suicide.

"It was couple in their 40s, the male apparently shot the female and then turned the gun on himself," said Erie police chief Randy Bowers. "Early information suggests that it was preceded by some sort of domestic argument."

The victims are Christopher Allen, 43, and Erica Castro, 41, according to the Erie County coroner, Lyle Cook.

"We found two victims in the living room of the house," Cook said. "It was clear that the death
was immediate."

Bowers confirms the weapon used was a handgun, which is now in evidence with EPD.

"I heard two shots go off, I look out the window, and five minutes later there were cop cars everywhere," said Lisa Chase, a neighbor who was sleeping when the incident occurred.

The number of shots have not yet been confirmed by police, and the motive is still unknown. However, Bowers believes that alcohol was involved in the incident.

It's the latest in a string of Erie shootings and fatal incidences, and it's left neighbors on edge.

"I just moved here a week ago and it's just ... wow," said Bridgette Young, another neighbor. "I thought it was a nice neighborhood, a quiet neighborhood. Now I'm nervous about staying here."

"This is the busiest our office has been in a long, long time," Cook said. "I hope for everyone's sake it ends."
