NBC's "The Biggest Loser" Stars Highlight Health Expo
Commit to be fit: that's the message from stars of NBC's “The Biggest Loser” during Saturday’s Health and Wellness Expo at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center. Chelsea Arthurs and David Brown are two of the four Biggest Loser participants who are in Erie this weekend.
"I think for people trying to keep up with their weight loss and stay active, the main thing is to know that you're worth it,” Arthurs said. “Remember that you have to take care of yourself."
"It's about a healthy lifestyle. It's about making a choice that you're worth it,” Brown said. “I'm going to get off of my couch, I'm going to get out of my comfort zone. I'm going to sign up for a race and I'm going to finish that race."
The health expo featured a number of local and national vendors promoting a healthy lifestyle, including everything from gym memberships to athletic gear. Jewel Parelman also got the crowd into some light exercises. As the director of new business development, she says this weekend's events will continue to drive home the show's message of personal wellness.
"The show has done an amazing deal for the country because it has brought obesity into the limelight,” Parelman said. “A lot of people don't want to talk about weight, right. It's a hard, sketchy subject, people talk about it...people get offended easily. Nobody wants to talk about weight, nobody wants to say that our country is obese."
Even though weight loss can be a struggle, both Arthurs and Brown say you just have to make exercise a part of your daily routine.
"Weight loss is kind of like anything else you would do. It's like brushing your teeth or combing your hair. You have to work out, you have to take care of yourself," Arthurs said.
"Some days you have to do what you have to do so that someday down the road, you get to do what you want to do, and that's the message I want to share with people,” Brown said.
The Biggest Loser run-walk begins Sunday morning at 8 a.m. at Penn State Behrend.
