Flash Fire at West 12th Street Industry
Erie fire crews responded to a call at a west 12th Street Industry. Deputy Erie Fire Chief Jeff Carroll said it was a flash fire that flared up inside Modern Industry, at the corner of West 12th and Cherry Street.
The fire was reported about 7:30 PM Saturday, during a work shift at the plant. The flames spread upward and were still burning when firefighters arrived.
"There was a flash fire in one of their heat treat processors here at the Modern Industry," said Deputy Chief Carroll. "It extended to a wood ceiling and an exhaust fan."
The deputy chief also said there is a sprinkler system in the building but it didn't snuff out the fire. The fire was contained to that one area of the plant. The city's fire inspector is investigating.
