New Sheetz Opens Near Entrance to Presque Isle

The newest Sheetz store is now open in Millcreek Township.  It's located on 8th and Peninsula Drive near the entrance of Presque Isle State Park.                                                                                                                                                                                                                     

The store created some controversy last year when the project was announced.  Some people thought that a convenience store and gas station would take away from the beauty of Presque Isle.  The Sheetz is located where part of the El Patio motel once stood. The area was already zoned for commercial use, but Sheetz still worked with township supervisors on the design. 

Today, public reviews of the store are favorable.

"Outside, it looks very nice. It beautifies it. It's better than part of the motel was. It rehabilitated the corner," said Michael Simon, of Millcreek.

 A company executive says Sheetz plans to build more stores in Erie County.  He did not rule out building a store in the City of Erie. Currently, there are no Sheetz locations in the city.
