Sonney & Smith Square Off in 4th District Race

In the race for 4th Legislative District, incumbent State Rep. Curt Sonney  (R) is seeking his sixth term in office.

"I've always told people that I'm a working guy,” said Sonney.  “I started working in industry when I was 15 years old and I just haven't quit."

A lifelong resident of Harborcreek, Sonney says his experience in the private sector and his 10 years of political experience make him the most qualified candidate.

"I'm very proud of being able to be successful in moving legislation forward,” said Sonney.  “I've had probably a dozen bills that have been signed into law, and quite frankly, it's not an easy thing to get done and I'm very successful at it."

Sonney will square off against his Democratic challenger and fellow Harborcreek resident, Curt Smith.

"I'm feeling very confident,” said Smith.  “I think we made our message very clear to the constituents of the 4th District that we need new leadership and new change in the 4th District.”

Smith is a grocery team leader at Giant Eagle, with 15 years of retail experience.  Smith also serves as the vice president of the Harborcreek School Board.

"I believe legislators should be serving the people and not themselves,” said Smith.  “People are struggling right now to maintain their homes, pay their bills, and put food on their table and gas in their tank, just to go to work if they are lucky enough to have a job."

I asked both candidates why they should be elected.

“I believe I'm the best candidate for the job because I do relate to the constituents of the district,” said Smith.  “I've been out knocking on doors and hearing what the main concerns are, and I'd be a strong representation to stand up for the middle class."

"I think people recognize that I've always been highly accessible and I've always worked for their best interest,” said Sonney.  “This is what Democracy is all about.  I just hope that the great people of the 4th Legislative District get out and vote."

The 4th Legislative District includes Green and Greenfield Townships, LeBoeuf Township, Harborcreek, Wesleyville, Wattsburg, Corry, North East, and Union City.
