Members of law enforcement today helped a group of needy children do some Christmas shopping. Each child received a donated $100 gift card. It was the first day of the annual "Shop with a Hero" held at the Elm Street Walmart.

A procession of police arrived along with Santa Claus for the event. Members of local, state, and federal agencies helped 16 boys and girls pick out gifts for themselves and their families. The children were chosen with input from schools and social service agencies.

Both the kids and adults had fun.

State Trooper Steve Oler said, "I think we enjoy it as much as the kids do because its a time we can give back to our community. It is a time for these kids to actually know that law enforcement and the military , we are just average guys. We have family and everything like they do at home."

Tomorrow, 31 more  children with going shopping with member of law enforcement and the military at the Harborcreek Walmart.
