WICU12/WSEE News has learned that the first human trials with the John Kanzius cancer treatment technology may take place in Italy as early as 2016.  Lead researcher Dr. Steven Curley told reporter Lisa Adams he submitted two protocols to the National Ministry of Health in Italy, one to treat liver cancer, the other for treating pancreatic cancer.  Dr. Curley has been doing successful testing on small and large animals for three years now.  The Kanzius idea uses radio waves to kill cancer cells in tumors by heating nano particles that attach to those cells.

Dr. Curley said Akesogenx, still the name of the company overseeing the research, hired CEO Michael Wandell, who has a history of moving research to human trials.  Wandell will be meeting with Dr. Curley at his lab at the Baylor College of Medicine in Texas this week.  Plans are still in the works to take the Kanzius idea to the FDA and to human trials in Erie down the road.
