Edinboro police have charged a second suspect with murder, for his role in the November attack and shooting death of a former Edinboro student.
23-year old Michael Barron of Pittsburgh turned himself into Edinboro police Monday morning.
He was then arraigned on charges including homicide, conspiracy to commit homicide, and aggravated assault.
Edinboro police say on November 17th, Barron came up behind Tobiah Johnson, as he was trying to enter his water street apartment, and punched him in the head, knocking him to the ground.
Investigators say Barron continued to beat the victim as the second suspect, identified as Trey Gunter, ran up and also started to beat the victim with the butt of a handgun.
During the attack, police say Gunter stopped hitting the victim, pointed a gun at him and fired one shot into Johnson's lower back, killing him.
Gunter's trial on homicide and other charges is set for October.
Edinboro police say this deadly ambush all stemmed from a dispute over a stolen gun. Gunter believed Johnson stole his handgun.
Since Gunter's arrest, police have been working to identify the second suspect in the attack, who we know now was Barron.
Police interviewed witnesses, reviewed cell phone records of the suspects, as well as other evidence as part of the investigation.
Gunter was arrested the day after the shooting, "Since that time, the Edinboro Police Department has been working tirelessly and diligently to identify two additional suspects, they were believed to be at the scene of the homicide," said Edinboro Police Sgt. Al Donahue.
Barron is now in the Erie county prison without bond, as well as his accomplice, Trey Gunter.
Again, Gunter is set to head to trial next month, while Edinboro Police are also looking for a third suspect. They issued a warrant for Ryan Andrews, of Pittsburgh, for his alleged role in the homicide.
