A Harborcreek High School graduate who grew up in the home building business, now has is own television series. Tonight, the first two of nine episodes will air on the DIY channel. Troy Dean Shafer is a 1999 Harborcreek grad, whose family builds "new' homes in the area. But he left Erie County 10 years ago for Nashville. He wanted to be a singer, and when that didn't work out, his family's foundation in homes, set him on a different track. He dove into restoring historic Nashville houses, then selling them. He calls his business Nashville Flipped. Then he had a chance meeting with Mike Wolfe, star of the TV Show, American Pickers. Troy says, "Mike and I immediately hit it off. He somewhat recognized my company as being this guy that was doing these historic homes and I obviously recognized him. Within a couple of days were having coffee." So, Mike put him in touch with the friends at the DIY & HGTV channels. That led to a pilot episode, starring Troy, which was called the same thing as his business "Nashville Flipped." The pilot episode aired in March of 2015. Troy's brother, Tim Shafer says, "At that time it was explained to him that it would be a one-in-a-million shot, that this could ever be a reality." Months later, Troy Shafer learned the show would become a series. So, in four months, he flipped eight homes to meet taping requirements. The first two episodes will air back to back tonight (April 13, 2016) on the DIY Channel starting at 10:00. They are each a half hour long. Troy says he won't be singing in any of the episodes, but if there's a second season, that could be a possibility. The pilot show that started it all, will air at 11pm.
His family from Erie County surprised him in Nashville this week, with a visit. They'll be with him as he views the episodes for the first time, during a premier party, this Wednesday in Tennessee.
