The Pennsylvania Department of Education has approved the revised financial improvement plan submitted for Erie's Public Schools, according to a letter sent to the district's financial administrator Tuesday.

In the letter, Pennsylvania Secretary of Education Pedro Rivera said he looks forward to presenting the plan with district leaders to the school board and community on Thursday. The special session is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the library at Erie High School.

Charles Zogby, the state-appointed financial administrator for Erie's Public Schools, prepared the plan to help deal with the district's long-term budget issues.

The state rejected the financial improvement plan in March because it needed to include clearer directives, definitive performance goals and a timetable for the district's financial recover effort, according to Rivera.
