Edinboro announces Guiyou Huang as new president
Edinboro University has officially named its next president.
The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Board of Governors announced Dr. Guiyou Huang as Edinboro University's 19th president. The Board of Governors oversees all state-owned universities in Pennsylvania.
Huang was formally introduced Wednesday at a news conference in Butterfield Hall.
"I'm very humbled," Huang said. "I'm delighted this opportunity is here. I see good people around, good leadership for the system. I will take advantage of this opportunity to do a great job."
Huang currently serves as the chancellor at Louisiana State University of Alexandria, and previously lived in Pennsylvania for 9 years.
"I think there is a lot of opportunity for me, for my family, and to be a good leader and to help the campus grow," Huang said. "I do want to make a long term commitment."
The board's decision comes following a lengthy decision-making process.
In all, 60 candidates applied for the job and the Edinboro's Presidential Search Committee narrowed the pool down to 4 semi-finalists.
The university's council of trustees announced two finalists, Peter Fackler and Guiyou Huang, Ph.D., after a lengthy executive session May 3.
Huang is set to begin his duties as Edinboro's president July 1.
