Exclusive: $16 Million Renovation Plan for Edinboro University Library
The landmark Baron-Forness Library at Edinboro University is getting a $16 million face lift.
It is a story you'll only see on Erie News Now.
Design work will begin soon to renovate the library that was built in the 1970's.
Key systems including heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical will be upgraded.
Plus improvements will be made to enhance safety and accessibility.
But the most change that most people will notice will be the complete re-design of the space to make the library more open.
Also, the number of study rooms will triple.
Planners say the goal is to give students the space they need to study together.
Tony McMullen, Director of Library Services said, "We do need more group student rooms. We have eight right now. We are looking to add more, and more flexible space that is conducive to the way students work with each other."
Actual construction is expected to occur starting sometime in 2020 and take about a year to complete.
The library will remain open during the work.
