Hundreds of homeowners are in the dark after a downed power line left parts of western Erie County without electricity.

It happened around 1 a.m. Thursday along Avonia Road.

Penelec crews were called out for a downed power line. It was sparking as they worked to shut off the electricity.

It has left as many as 1,500 homes in the dark.

The latest word from Penelec is that they expect to have that electricity restored to the Fairview area by 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
