The Week Ahead: Hot Temperatures, Rain from Barry
This week is looking Hot, Hot, Hot!!! Temperatures will likely reach the lower 90s during parts of the week.
The beginning half of the week is looking seasonal with temperatures in the lower 80s across the region. We'll be nice and sunny on Monday with a high temperature around 84 degrees.
The jet stream lifts north on Tuesday, and the temperatures will begin to soar! This is what we call a strong "upper level ridge" building across the Eastern US. Much of the Eastern half of the country will experience hot weather. We will have to monitor things and see if this will officially be a heat wave. For Erie, PA, a heat wave is categorized as three or more consecutive days with temperatures at or above 90 degrees.
We'll also have a high threat for thunderstorms on Wednesday as the leftovers of "Barry" drift into our region. Right now there is no immediate risk for severe weather, but we'll be monitoring the situation and let you know if things change in the near future!
