Erie City Council and Erie County Council will be full of new faces next term, as newcomers fared well on election night.

In the county's first district, Democrat Kim Clear handily beat Republican Robert Yates. Meanwhile, the race was much closer in the fifth district, and was too close to call as of midnight Wednesday morning. Democrat Kyle Foust and Republican Brian Shank are locked in a tight battle. Republican Ellen Schauerman cruised to victory in the seventh district.

Foust's tough night continued in the race of County Controller. He's in a neck-and-neck battle with Republican Mary Schaaf.

The City Council had three open spots. Democrats will fill them all.

Mel Witherspoon, Ed Brzezinski and Michael Keys each took about 25 percent of the vote.
