Recall Issued for Ready-to-Eat Sushi, Salads and Spring Rolls Sold at Giant Eagle, Walgreens
Fuji Food Products has issued a voluntary recall of ready-to-eat sushi, salads and spring rolls sold at ten retailers including Giant Eagle and Walgreens.
It follows a warning from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
No illness related to the products has been reported at this time.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The problem was discovered in a Brockton, Massachusetts facility following a routine FDA inspection. Fuji Food Products has never before recalled any of its products.
The products are packed in plastic trays with clear lids, and the sell-by dates are on the labels.
Anyone who has purchased any of the affected products should throw it out.
