Community Steps up to Donate Coats to Keep People in Need Warm this Winter

Erie winters can be harsh, especially for those without the proper clothing, but Community Coats is looking to change that.
Erie News Now teamed up with the City of Erie for the initiative in east Perry Square, which runs through Sunday.
People in need are encouraged to grab a coat, and others who have a coat to give are encouraged to drop it off.
Erie News Now returned Saturday to find many of the coats up there had been replaced.
People were bringing even more to hang from the trees near the Perry Monument.
Many there said this type of community support is what Erie is all about, and the outpour of support has been overwhelming.
"Erie's always a giving community," said Denice Manus. "Whenever there's a need, they always give out, and stretch out their arms to help whomever."
"People have a hard time asking," said Kathy Clinger-Butler, who was dropping off coats. "Maybe you can reach out to them. Don't wait for the question; just be part of the solution."
You can pick up or drop off coats, gloves, hats, or scarves Sunday, too.
