Kids Enjoy Lesson on Reptiles at Asbury Woods

You can enjoy Drop in and Discovery Days Saturdays at Asbury Woods.
Some families got an opportunity to learn about reptiles this weekend, meeting a box turtle named Dexter; a skink, which is a type of lizard, named Alex; and a snake named Zemaya.
"All three of these species are representative of the reptile family, so we explained features that make a reptile distinctive from their scales and how they survive winter," said Kelley Lang, director of education.
Thanks to a recent capital campaign, a neat magnification tool linked to an iPad allows people to take a very close look at the reptiles and their scales, for example.
There's always a related craft to support the lesson.
"We love to come in here whenever we can," said Kevin Stenson who brought his son Everest to Asbury Woods. "It's a fun time just to come and learn something about nature. He likes the crafts mostly; we'll do some fun crafts."
At Drop in and Discover on Dec. 28, they will be decorating an after-Christmas tree, making treats indoors that can be enjoyed safely by wildlife and heading outside to hang them on a Hemlock tree near the Nature Center.
