Millcreek rescue units responded Sunday afternoon for a man hurt when the ceiling of his apartment collapsed on him at Treetop Drive. The call was to 1813 Treetop Drive.

According to dispatchers, the man was not seriously hurt, but needed help to get out of his apartment.

Based on their assessment at the scene, police and firefighters began evacuating the entire apartment building.

Sources tell us as many as 13 units or people from the second floor to the basement are affected.

Crews at the scene initially said it was unclear how long residents would have to stay out.  They called for a building inspection team to evaluate the safety of the structure.  They escorted residents back in to retrieve a few belongings.

Rescuers also called for police assistance because at least one resident was refusing to leave his apartment.

After the inspections, officials determined that the building is condemned.  Residents will have to stay with other friends or family, or get emergency housing help through the American Red Cross.

The multi-unit residential complex has a history of structural problems in recent years.  Six buildings were condemned and torn down after a balcony collapse in 2016 called attention to a number of issues. At that time four people were hospitalized.

In 2018, the Granada Apartment complex was sold at a sheriff's sale.  New ownership came in, rehabilitated the complex and renamed it The Reserve at Millcreek.

Today's structural problems are the first significant ones reported since that time.
