Residents Forced To Evacuate Immediately After Apartment Building Is Condemned
Emergency personnel condemned an apartment building at 1813 treetop in the Reserve at Millcreek, formerly the Granada Apartments. Residents were forced to evacuate their homes for at least 48 hours.
Kearsarge firefighters responded to call about a ceiling caving in on a third floor apartment. The ceiling collapsed on top of a resident, fortunately not injuring him. However, after a lengthy investigation officials confirmed there is issues with the buildings structural stability.
"I feel like they weren't being honest with us, you know. Letting us know the situation with some of these apartments,” said resident, Lori Pfadt.
This is not the first time one of the buildings in this apartment complex were deemed unfit to live. In 2016, the property was called the Granada Apartments, when a balcony collapsed sending four people to the hospital.
The Red Cross is providing shelter for residents who do not have anywhere else to go. As of now there is no way of confirming what is going to happen long term, but Erie News Now will continue to follow this developing story.
