Some Albion Residents Are Hopeful the New Council Will Consider Bringing Back Police Force in 2020
It's been a little over three months since the Albion Borough Council voted to remove its police department. With the New Year only a few days away many residents there are hopeful bringing the department back would be considered in 2020.
"When I heard about it I thought it was a mistake, I didn't think it was a good idea," Albion resident Erik Glembin shared. "Taxes are fore something like the police force."
Some residents also mentioned not noticing the absence of the force because there haven't been any major incidents recently. The area is being covered by state police since the local department disbanded.
The vote to end the police force came with much disagreement, as many borough residents publicly voiced concerns in September before and during the vote. Still, the borough council voted to end the force, then decided to override a veto from the borough's mayor. With changes in the council during November's election, some residents said they were hopeful to see the police department return or at least be considered by the council.
"I would love to see them at least investigate the idea of it," Greg Clapper, a resident of the borough, said. "I understand that politics are hard and finances are hard but certainly it's a nice thing to have if it's something that we can afford."
