The J.M. Smucker Company is reorganizing its pet food operations and will close four warehouses in northwestern Pennsylvania.
The company said three smaller warehouses in Meadville and one in Erie will be closing by the end of this year.
Some are warehouses for raw ingredients, and the storage for those ingredients is being shifted to J.M. Smucker's main Meadville location.
The company is also closing distribution centers in Greenville and Breinigsville because a new distribution center in Carlisle has the size and design to handle multiple lines of products, including non-pet food items.
J.M. Smucker said it will be reorganizing itself in two phases - one in March and then one in August.
When both phases are complete, more than 60 jobs will be eliminated. Affected employees are being encouraged to consider applying for open roles in Meadville. They will be offered a severance package, according to the company.
The changes will allow the company to streamline its distribution lines in Pennsylvania from the Big Heart Pet Brands and Ainsworth Pet Nutrition acquisitions, according to J.M. Smucker.
