The Erie Port Authority is hoping construction can start this spring on a big improvement project on East Dobbins Landing.

Bids are scheduled to be opened later this month.

The key part of the project is replacing the aging dock wall with a new wall, 15 feet north of the existing wall.

The makeover will make the area along the bay wider, creating more parking and more room for pedestrians.

The goal is to improve safety and public access,

Brenda Sandberg, Executive Director of the Erie Port Authority said, "That will remove the pedestrians from walking in the roadway and alleviate congestion as people go back to such businesses as Rum Runners or Woody's."

Depending on the bids, some or all of the work could be done this year.

The authority thinks the entire project will cost about $3 million.
