First envisioned by former Erie County Councilwoman Carol Loll in 2001, the new Erie County Community Resource Center on Thursday opened its doors for the first time.

Erie County President Judge John T. Trucilla, the Court of Common Pleas and Adult Probation/Parole made the announcement for the new Center, which is designed to reduce recidivism and jail overcrowding.

The Center is home to the Day Report Center and supports individuals that are under court supervision by providing a blend of services. Services offered are evidence-based and tailored to each individual's needs - all under one roof.

The program is a minimum of 90 days. If eligibility requirements are met, the Community Resource Center can be a court-ordered special condition in lieu of incarceration.

Available services include:

"I am proud to support the Erie County Community Resource Center to again demonstrate that the courts are not to be viewed as merely punitive," said President Judge Trucilla. "But also rehabilitative and committed to reintegrating qualified offenders back into our community as successful contributors."

The Center is located at 1631 Sassafras Street.
