You may think you have moved on from the latest storm but its effects could literally be hanging over your head.
We clean off our cars daily, but how often do you clean off your roof?
After heavy snow, it's a must especially to avoid damage down the road.
Andy Vinca is the owner of Angelo's Roofing and Construction and says roof repairs are common this time of year. "When it's cold like this with snow and ice, it builds up on the roof and then when we get a warm up like we are supposed to get on Monday then all that snow and ice starts to melt and then roofs start to dam up and really could cause a lot of leaking", said Vinca.
Once a roof gets damaged, a hefty repair bill often follows. "It can get costly and can cause damage to the drywall, ceilings, walls. We see all of it", continued Vinca.
One thing you can do at home to make sure your roof stays safe and avoids damages is by using a roof rake. It's fairly simple to use, you take it, bring it up to the roof and grab any snow down.
Since roofs vary from home to home, you need to know what type you have and how to clean it. Vinca described what things to be aware of. "On a flat roof you want to shovel off around the drains and then on a house roof you want to clear away the ice and snow on the eaves, which is right above the gutter, you want to get it before it forms into ice", said Vinca.
But it's not just roof repair companies that recommend cleaning your roofs. Township leaders do too.
Tim May, the Harborcreek Township Supervisor said, "Especially with the wet snow we had a couple of weeks ago it took a few days to get that off and we've had more snow this year than a few years ago and it's important to get the weight off the roof and keep your cars clean for visibility sake."
A few hours of cleaning off your roof now, will save you money in the future.
