Traffic investigators spent several hours on the scene of a serious two car collision at the intersection of West Ridge Road and Millfair Road on the dividing line between Fairview and Millcreek Township.
The accident happened around 4:40 p.m. trapping one woman in her car.
State Police from the Girard barracks are investigating the accident. Police from Millcreek responded to the scene as well to direct traffic around the heavily damaged vehicles and debris.
Rescuers freed the woman who was entrapped, and rushed her to UPMC Hamot Trauma Center for treatment of serious injuries.
According to police investigators at the scene, a young male driver heading south on Millfair Road apparently ran the traffic light and hit the side of the second car, which was heading east on West Ridge Road.
Special traffic investigators and an accident reconstruction team were called to the intersection. The have not indicated yet whether any charges may be filed in connection with the accident.
