The owner of Fat Monn's Grub made a big announcement Wednesday night.
If you remember back in December, the owner Jason Monn took his frustrations with statewide COVID-19 restaurant restrictions all the way to Harrisburg.
Now he is announcing he is running for Governor.
Going to Harrisburg back in December to advocate for restaurants and small businesses gave him inspiration to put his name on the ballot.
“I learned something that day while I was sitting there,” Monn said. “As I couldn’t get any one person that worked in the government at all to talk to me, that showed me that us, the regular folks, the normal folks, the common folks need to stand up.”
Standing up is what he plans to do, trying to make his way to Harrisburg this time for a much different reason, to run for Pennsylvania Governor.
This isn't his first go-around in politics. He was the Mayor of Corry, taking his term in 2015, but certainly his first time running for such a high office.
He notes his family and his restaurant as key factors contributing to his decision to run for Governor.
Aside from just being frustrated with restaurant restrictions, he said COVID-19 showed him how much power the government has over small businesses and he wants to change that He said he wants to be the common guy next door listening to all concerns.
“You can be a nobody and still become a somebody,” Monn said.
Restaurants and small businesses aren't the only issues on his mind as he enters the race.
“I think Pennsylvania can be a lot better than it is right now,” Monn said. “I think judicial reform is huge and needs to happen, I think we need to work on the economy and jobs, and I think we need to work on unifying people again. There’s 80 percent of us that are stuck in the middle right now that shouldn’t be.”
He stands by that statement that he falls right in the middle, though he is running on the republican ticket.
Monn is not the only name we will see running for Governor. We will keep you updated throughout the entire election on-air and here on our website.
